Damn. I hate poetry.

You genuinely don't make sense to me.

You want to be my best friend,

until there's someone better around.

You want to be complimented,

so you self-deprecate desperately.

You want to be more than the present,

but you can't get over the past.

You want to be seen as unique,

but you act exactly like your friends.

You want to sympathize,

but you end up in a lake of pity.

You want your past to stop chasing you,

yet you walk in slow motion.

You are a walking, talking contradiction,

and nothing's gonna change until you do.

just you.

Dearest Andrew #3

This week entering lab, I was exhausted to say the least. I guess I'm the type of person that visually looks tired, or at least unhappy, when I'm exhausted. Here's how Andrew reacted to the more glum version of me.

Me: "Hi Andrew"

Andrew: "Afternoon"

(pauses to look at lab notebook)

Andrew: "you look upset"

Me: "no just tired"

Andrew: "try not to fall asleep in my lab"

Me: "oh you haven't noticed, that's my goal every week"

Dearest Andrew #2

Before any of the sass and sarcasm, some background:

In gen chem, and any hard science lab, a major part of lab reports is including sources of systematic error. This past lab was focused around determining the equilibrium constant of several different solutions. One of the determining factors of whether or not equilibrium can be reached is that temperature must be held constant. In the lab, my seat just happens to be incredibly close to the huge-normous windows that are not suited for keeping students warm. Let the scene be set halfway through the lab, with a freezing small person like myself hard at work.

Me: "Andrew why is it so cold?"

Andrew: *heads towards the heaters under the windows*

Me: "they're not on, I checked"

Andrew: "well I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do"

Me: "ugh"

(several minutes later)

Me: "Andrew, because chemical equilibrium can only be reached when the temperature is constant in the environment, isn't this entire lab invalid!?"

Andrew: "I guess that will be one of your sources of error..."

A Randomly Detailed Explanation of Hugs

As a rather short human being, I have discovered the three major
types of hugs a person can give at any given time. This theory was recently provoked by my recent friend-zoning. Just to keep the self pity going on a little longer, I was friend-zoned by a guy, we'll call him A, and still haven't figured out how to act and feel. But that in its entirety is its own story. Regardless, here goes my discussion of the three major types of hugs and their significance.

Type One: The "let me throw myself on you" Hug

It should be noted that this hug can also be known as the "feel my chest against yours," as commonly performed when a teenage girl wants to prove to a guy that there's 'something' there. Nonetheless, this type of hug occurs when the shorter person wraps both of their arms around the taller person, falling into them. Most commonly, I act as the shorter person, so my opinion is subjective, but this hug usually signifies there's a deeper relationship, you can't hug your grandfather with this type of hug. Both hugger and huggee are acting rather spontaneously with this sort of hug and will usually lead to some form of kissing. Its the sort of hug you see in all the sappy videos (which I adore) of deployed husbands and wives coming home to meet their spouses in the airport, there's just so much meaning behind those hugs.

Type Two: The Genuine Friend Hug

I began noticing how I proceeded about hugging my male friends in this specific way over winter break. I attended a work holiday party and proceeded to see many close friends I hadn't seen since the summer. Shockingly enough, some of them had gotten taller, or had appeared to, over the four month
time span. Despite the height difference, I always seemed to do a sort of diagonal hug, where one are goes up and around the shoulder and the other goes under their arm reaching up. I think you all have just experienced how terrible I am at describing hugs so I hope the picture will help. Nonetheless, this is the typical friendship hug. I signifies love, but not romance and a platonic desire to hold someone. This sort of hug *totally* works on family members (of any age), and as I've recently learned is how to hug a person who has friend-zoned you. And though I love being able to say I have moved past all the emotions in a sense that I give A friend hugs, I can't say that's the hug I always want to be giving.

Type Three: The "I need your comforting now" Hug

This hug is unlike any other. It is the most relaxing and peaceful feeling in the world (minor exaggeration). I honestly can't explain how magical it is to 'bury' oneself into the chest of someone you trust. Trying to describe this hugging phenomena is instilling the sudden desire to hug someone, sadly the roommate is gone and the almost boyfriend just wants to be friends. This is the type of hug you need after you've been sobbing for no reason or feel like the world is disappearing from under you. It is the type of hug that levels your head and calms your mind, and if your mind is as restless as mine, it is very important at times. I can't say I've had many of these hugs, due to my lack of relationship experience, but those I have had were perfect. If you have the opportunity to hug someone like this, make it last as long as possible, because once it ends, you'll be sad you let go.

Every other type of hug can fit into one of the types of hugs listed above. I'm sure their are many more lists of hugs available to be read across the interwebs but none of them have the incredible stock photos this list shows. Reading this now, it seems rather dull. Good thing I didn't say that at the beginning, or else you never would have reached the end. If only I had a meaningful final sentence to conclude all this...

Dearest Andrew #1(?)

Dearest Andrew is my gen chem TA this semester. He is more socially aware of my sarcastic tendencies than last semester's TA, which, clearly, makes me love him even more. I've decided the best way to preserve the meaningless, yet humorous, conversations we have by posting them for the reader's enjoyment. Because we are at least half way through the semester, I should probably start with some older conversations.

Some background: in order to enter the chem lab, both pre-lab and attire must be checked before entering, this is a very simple process to ensure that anyone entering the lab is physically and mentally ready to safely perform the procedure.

Me: "Good afternoon Andrew"

Andrew: "Hi" *begins scanning prelab* " you have your data tables"

Me: "Next page,... "

Andrew: "oh there they are"

Me: "well if I didn't have them it'd be a dysfunctional mess"

Andrew: "woah, sassy today?"

Me: "sassy everyday" *walks into the lab*

One of the recent (probably not so recent) iphone updates introduced the panorama photo option. I've taken countless photos using panoramas but want to post some in continuing my series on mediocre photography. Here goes nothing...
